Travel across the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass, visit the UNESCO-famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, follow the green Drâa Valley to Zagora and M’Hamid, then experience a camel trek and an unforgettable night in the dunes of Erg Lihoudi.
This tour is ideal for travelers who want a real Sahara-style experience from Marrakech without traveling as far as Merzouga. You will enjoy dramatic mountain roads, Berber villages, desert scenery, traditional music around the fire, and a magical sunset over the dunes before returning to Marrakech.
Your 3-day Marrakech desert tour begins with pick-up from your hotel or Marrakech Menara Airport. Leave the city behind and cross the High Atlas Mountains through the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass, at an altitude of around 2,260 metres.
Enjoy several photo stops along the way, with wide views over mountain valleys and traditional Berber villages. Continue toward Ait Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s most iconic ksars, built along a hill and known for its unique mud-brick architecture.
This historic village has appeared in many international films and series, including Gladiator, The Mummy, Prince of Persia, Babel, and Game of Thrones.
After lunch on the road, continue south through the beautiful Drâa Valley, a long chain of palm groves, oases, kasbahs, and small villages between the Anti-Atlas Mountains and the desert. Dinner and overnight in a guesthouse or riad in the palm grove area.

After breakfast, continue through the Drâa Valley toward Zagora. The route offers changing desert landscapes, old kasbahs, palm groves, and small Berber settlements.
Arrive in M’Hamid, the gateway to the Moroccan desert, for lunch. In the afternoon, begin your desert adventure toward Erg Lihoudi.
Depending on the season and weather conditions, you will either ride camels through the dunes to reach the camp or travel by 4x4 during the hottest months before enjoying a camel ride at sunset.
Arrive at the desert camp in time to admire the golden sunset over the Erg Lihoudi dunes. Enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner, followed by a relaxing evening around the campfire with local music when available. Spend the night in traditional desert tents beneath the stars.
